2011 brought some changes to our lives as we moved out of a place
that we rented for the last 2.5 years and bought our own place about
20 miles to the south. I also found myself not being able to let go
of my love for the alpines and purchasing a few purebreds and a few
Americans. Finally, I got myself talked into getting a few
Lamanchas to join our farm. This will make for an interesting
breeding season as I try to keep all the animals straight.
My daughter, Johanna, is in charge of the Toggs and has her own herd
name. So any Toggs that you purchase will carry her herd name of
Country*Crowns. All the does and bucks are currently Purebred and we
are currently toying with the idea of getting a few Americans. This
past year, we lost several older goats and some great breeding lines
as they passed over the rainbow bridge. With that happening, our
Togg herd got smaller but we are excited with the purchase of two
new purebred bucks.
My son, Gatlin, passed away in January of 2009 at 13 in a car
accident. It was a great loss for my daughter and I as we always
said that it was “us three against the world”. He really liked the
color of Obes and enjoyed the Lamanchas. Both of those breeds we
started in the herd to honor him. They will carry the herd name
Gatlin’s Pride and some of the monies made from them are used to
fund scholarships in his name. We have a few Purebred Oberhasli
does that will be live bred to some purebred bucks out of the
Meadowsong herd. Then, on the American side, we were lucky to
secure a buck from Susanna Tracyzk from the Heavens Hollow herd.
The Lamanchas that we had the opportunity to purchase are quite
lovely and I like the style, balance and elegance that they bring.
Their breedings go back to One*Oak*Hill and Barnowl.
At present time, I have taken most of the pictures off of the
website because I was just not happy with how they looked. If they
are on here, then they passed my inspection of what I think brought
out the best in the goat. If you really want to see a picture of
one, please let me know and I will send you one of my amateur shots.
We attended two shows this year in Marshfield. One buck show at the
beginning of the year and then we went to the Central Wisconsin
State Fair at the end of the season.
We do heat treat colostrum and pasteurize the milk that is fed to
the kids. All kids are routinely treated for coccidia.
Enjoy the website. If you have any questions, please feel free to
contact us.
